On National Builder’s Day, we thank the people bringing Romania’s most ambitious urban regeneration project to life.

More than 550 people from 45 partner companies are currently working on the RIVUS construction site, bringing to life the mixed-use development by IULIUS and Atterbury Europe. On National Builder’s Day, we turn our attention to the people who make progress possible — engineers, surveyors, carpenters, steelworkers, installers, security teams and workers, all contributing to one of the country’s most ambitious urban regeneration projects.

Every year, on September 14th, Romania celebrates National Builder’s Day. This date marks an important milestone in the history of Romanian engineering: in 1895, on September 14th, the Cernavodă Bridge was inaugurated, under the coordination of engineer Anghel Saligny. Beyond this historical reference, National Builder’s Day is, first and foremost, about the people of a certain profession. About those who help shape ideas and build the buildings, roads, bridges and places that later become part of a community’s life.

„A construction site is easy to describe through numbers: built-up areas, tons of steel, cubic meters of concrete, deadlines or stages of execution. What’s less noticeable are the people behind these numbers. Those who show up on site every morning, regardless of weather conditions. Those who measure, calculate, coordinate, install, reinforce and inspect. Teams with different professions, all working towards the same goal. A project as complex as RIVUS is built in stages, with thorough planning, precision, professionalism and teamwork. For us, National Builder’s Day is an opportunity to thank everyone working on the RIVUS construction site today and contributing, day after day, to bringing Romania’s largest urban regeneration project to life. Thank you!” – said Vlad Samoil, RIVUS project manager .

Some professions are more visible than others, but each plays a part in what is being built on the former industrial site. Engineers coordinate the works and oversee their execution; surveyors measure and set out with precision; formwork carpenters build the structures that shape the concrete; steelworkers prepare and install the reinforcement; while installation workers work on the systems that will make the buildings fully functional. Alongside them are construction workers, security personnel and all the teams whose work keeps a construction site of this scale running day after day.

And while National Builder’s Day has its origins in the inauguration of one of the best-known bridges in the history of Romanian engineering, its connection to RIVUS can also be found in the infrastructure the project will bring to the city. RIVUS will create new connections across the Someș River through the bridges to be built as part of the project. These will become visible and accessible pieces of infrastructure for the community, but, like the entire project, they begin with the work of the people on site.

The commitment of these teams is helping transform 14 hectares of underutilized land into a new part of the city, with retail, office, cultural and entertainment functions, alongside green spaces, new connections and infrastructure for the community.
