Cluj-Napoca high-school and university students training in constructions visit RIVUS

30 students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering with the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca and 30 students from the “Anghel Saligny” Technical College have visited the construction site of RIVUS, the largest urban regeneration project in Romania. The youngsters learned about the development phases and technical details of this project from the specialists working here. The visit offered them a hand-on experience of what a construction site of this magnitude entails.

University students’ visit – Outdoor laboratory for future engineers

As part of the partnership between the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (UTCN) and RIVUS, the students return to the construction site on a regular basis to closely follow the progress of the project.

During the latest visit, 30 students specializing in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Railways, Roads and Bridges, accompanied by teachers, have returned to the RIVUS construction site for a technical visit dedicated to special foundations. The students observed the construction process for slurry walls and pile walls, and were able to discuss directly with the specialists involved in this project. The visit connected the theoretical knowledge from Geotechnics and Foundations courses with practical on-site experience, transforming the construction site into a learning environment.

High-school students’ visit – First direct contact with a large scale construction site

As part of the “Atypical School Week” program, 11th grade students from the “Anghel Saligny” Technical College specializing as construction drafting technicians and as construction and public works technicians, have also visited the construction site. For many of them, this marked their first-ever experience with a project of this magnitude.

The children pass by the construction site every day and were very curious about it. In the 11th grade, we study resistance structures, so being able to see these structures for themselves was incredibly helpful. Many students continue in this field, as there is always a need for builders in Cluj, said Aurica Rotund, Eng. Professor.

Sorin Guttman, the manager of the project, noted as follows: “For RIVUS, the ongoing collaboration with the academic community is essential and marks one of our strategic directions for development. The high-school and university students’ regular visits are a natural component of this commitment, whereby we wish to contribute to the practical training of the next generation of specialists. As the works progress, we will continue to open new phases of the project for future educational visits, providing the youngsters with the opportunity to see firsthand how an urban regeneration project of this scale takes shape.
